What is Reiki?

Reiki is a form of energy healing. It is known to relieve stress, lessen pain and bring on a feeling of peace. It is also used for helping bone and tissue to heal after an injury or surgery. Reiki also helps those with cancer to promote healing and bring on a meditative state that is relaxing to the patient.

Reiki is a Japanese practice created in the early 20th century by Dr. Mikao Usui. It does not replace modern medicine; it is a complementary practice. Dr. Usui taught that our energy can get stuck, causing stress and pain. Reiki is a way to get the energy flowing through the body, as it is meant to flow.

A Reiki session usually lasts 50 minutes. The client lays down while the practitioner uses their hands to connect with the universal flow of energy. The practitioner acts as a conduit of the healing energy to the client’s body by gently touching or holding their hands over the energy centers in the body, known as chakras. The client may feel warmth in their body during the session. Usually a feeling of relaxation and deep peace is experienced.
